In celebration of International Women’s Day

International Women's Day Yoga Fundraiser

March has arrived and no sooner has it started than we can look forward to not one but TWO days in the same week celebrating women. Of course, it’d be great to live in a world where women and girls are celebrated every day but that’s a post for another day…

As International Women’s Day approaches on Friday 8 March I’m raising awareness of WHISC (the Women’s Health Information and Support Centre) - a brilliant local charity that’s been dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women throughout Liverpool and their families for almost 40 years now.

A recent report from Liverpool’s Director of Public Health said that by 2040 ‘the life expectancy of women would fall by one year and they will be in good health for 4.1 fewer years than they are currently.’

It’s quite alarming to think that in these modern times the life expectancy of women across the city region (which is already below the national average) is projected to fall rather than increase. It really highlights why WHISC’s support is needed more now than ever.

Rise & Shine Yoga Class Fundraiser

In order to do what it does, WHISC relies on the generosity of local businesses and donors so as this week’s Rise & Shine Yoga Class falls on International Women’s Day, all proceeds will be donated to the charity.

There are still a few spaces available so if you’re in South Liverpool and free between 8 - 8.50am this Friday, and would like to support, please come along! You can book your spot here. The class takes place at The Body Clinic Liverpool on Aigburth Road, above Space Bar and Grill.

Women supporting women

And ahead of Mother’s Day, I want to send love to all those who - like me - might be feeling the absence of their mums and mother figures this coming Sunday.

It was losing my mum to breast cancer 4 years ago that was the catalyst for me training to become a yoga teacher (and more recently, joining WHISC as a trustee).

Since I’ve set out on this path I’ve been very fortunate to have had kind encouragement and support from some amazing women (and men too, tbf) - hoping you all know who you are as there are too many of you to mention here!

As this journey continues, my aim is to pay this forward to all the women I meet both on and off the yoga mat, whatever day or week it might be.
